June 2, 2015, Tuesday, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

According to our daily newsletter, Currents, Bora Bora is an island in the Leeward group of the Society Islands of French Pollynesia, an overseas collectivity of France.  It is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef and has the remnants of an extinct volcano rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu.  The major tourist attraction is its aquacentric resorts, with individual grass roofed cabins on stilts over the ocean where you can swim off your deck and observe tropical fish in the aqua colored waters.

We met the boat for our Shark and Stingray snorkel safari after a tender ride to shore.

Several groups all looking at the stingrays and sharks
Touching a stingray.  They are soft, slimy, and flowing.  It was scary at first, but then we all got used to it, and the black tipped sharks swimming neaby.
Our guide called this an ocean bird when we asked what it was.  It posed on the end of the boat for quite a while
A moment before they were kissing.  The picture perfect photo gone by, but still amazing

Common fish and fun to watch
A common fish, but very beautiful

beautiful coral everywhere.
David got some beautiful underwater photos

I was ready for more and more and more snorkel safari opportunities so we cancelled all other excursions and changed to ones with snorkling.
